Department of Education and SportsMandate of the Education department Government of Uganda Policy in this sector is to promote basic education by improving equitable access to basic education, improve its quality and retention (i.e. completion of basic education cycle). It is incumbent upon the sector to guide, co-ordinate regulate and promote quality education to the community of Kaberamaido District. The support the department receives in this mission from the private sector (private schools) and other partners is highly recognised. The department is headed by an acting District Education Officer; Mr. Ochung Moses Mathew. Departmental Goals
The district has a total of 92 government aided primary schools and 1 private school.
Pupils of Okile primary school in Kobulubulu sub-county relax outsie their classroom block. The classroom block was constructed with support from NUSAF I.
Ocelakur primary school in Bululu sub-county renovated/completed this FY 2009/2010 under LGMSD Performance of primary schools in the district Kaberamaido is among the worst performing districts in the country and this is attributed to a number of factors. The poor performance is indicated in the trend in PLE performance over the years provided below: Click here to view the trend in PLE Performance In order to improve the standard of education in the district, the Education department has come up with a proposal detailing the general performance and the gaps therein. The Education department is therefore, making an appeal to the donor community and well wishers to support the effort to improve education performance in the district through the proposal. ICT in schools Currently, only one secondary school (Kalaki S.S.) and the technical institute have acquired computers. Secondary Education The district has 13 secondary schools including private schools. Each sub-county has at least one secondary school. Kalaki secondary school is so far the only secondary school with ICT equipment. The school received a donation of 10 computers from the Uganda Communications Commission. The head teacher, Kalaki S.S. Mr. Okech tries out one of the computers in the school's computer lab. Tertiary Education The district has one technical institute; Kaberamaido Technical Institute located in Kobululubulu sub-county. The institute is headed by Mr. Talwana Bucha. The institute recently received support worth millions of shillings from the German Government, among which included a computer lab with ten computers.
